Plantations shutter blinds FAQ
What are Shutter Blinds?
Shutter blinds, also known as plantation shutters, are a type of window treatment that consists of wide louvres or slats that can be adjusted to control light and privacy. They are usually made of wood, vinyl, or composite materials and are available in a variety of colours and finishes to match any decor.
They’re a traditional window treatment often seen in Victorian homes but are just as at home in contemporary rooms.
Why Choose Shutter Blinds?
When it comes to window treatments, shutters have long been a popular and timeless choice. Not only do they offer a classic and elegant look to any room, but they also provide practical benefits such as light control, privacy, and insulation.
Shutter blinds offer many benefits over other types of window treatments. Here are a few reasons why you should consider them:
Light Control
With shutter blinds, you can adjust the slats to let in as much or as little light as you want. This makes them a great choice for bedrooms, nurseries, or any room where you want to control the amount of natural light that enters.
Privacy
Shutter blinds can be closed completely to provide maximum privacy. This is especially important for ground-floor rooms or rooms facing a busy street.
Insulation
Shutter blinds can help insulate your home by blocking out drafts and keeping out the heat in the summer and cold in the winter. And that’s backed by the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust which undertook a study in energy efficiency for historic homes in 2018. They found that shutters not only enhanced the historic look but helped retain heat, saving money on energy bills.
Durability
Shutter blinds are built to last and can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use.
Are plantation shutter blinds child-safe?
Plantation shutters have no cords or strings to get tangled so there is no risk of strangulation, making them a great choice for kids bedrooms and playrooms. (They’re also great for pesky pets who love to pull at Venetian slats).
Child safety is really important to us, and we only supply products that meet the British Blind and Shutter Association’s (BBSA) strict child safety requirements.
What are shutter blinds made of?
Our plantation shutter blinds ranges are available in a variety of materials including:
- Real wood
- Faux wood – made from high-grade Polysilk vinyl that’s suitable for high moisture areas.
- Bonded wood (Stronger than wood and lighter than MDF our bonded wood shutters are both water and impact-resistant. And what’s more, they’re fully recyclable and environmentally friendly too.)
- Perfect fit shutters are made from a polysilk vinyl that’s guaranteed for 10 years.
Are shutters blinds waterproof?
Not all shutter blinds are suitable for high moisture areas as real wood can warp – but don’t worry, you can still get the look you want with our faux and bonded wood ranges.
Are plantation shutter blinds suitable for patio and french doors?
Full-height plantation shutter blinds are a great match for larger windows and doors. They fold back in a concertina fashion to allow easy access to the door.
Our team will be able to survey your doors to let you know if they’re a suitable choice for you. If your doors aren’t right for plantation shutters, our team will help you find an alternative that works for you.
What colours are shutter blinds available in?
Each of our shutters range has it’s own set of colours – including warm and cool whites, light and dark neutrals and various varnish finishes for our real wood range.
But you’re not limited to the off-the-shelf colours. If you’re looking for a specific colour match – we can do that too! Just talk to our team about our RAL colour-matching service.
